about

“Every painting is a potential window to a soul. And for that, I try to add one to each. Not all attempts bring success, nor end in failure. However, with the progression of many, the few that do shine through may turn out to be jewels, perhaps masterpieces!”

livd is a self-taught painter, who’d dabbled in a variety of media that range from inks, pastels, watercolors to acrylics. Presently, oil is the primary medium that which he works with.

To distinguish himself from the sea of artists, livd had come up with at least two exceptional techniques that set his styles apart from the rest. At a closer inspection, tiny spikes, literally thousands, if not more, swell from the canvas, on which they are applied, giving the work a three-dimensional appearance. A technique he dubbed, prickle-a-lot (pictures below).

While the other, nicknamed swirl-a-lot (pictures below), takes on twirled patterns, offering the viewers a sense of movements within each piece.

Both of these styles, done without a single brushstroke or any use of a paintbrush, are thick and heavy in textures, with cumulative layers added to achieve a painterly feel. Conceivably, the artist is currently in the process of producing a few more techniques which he refrains from disclosing until the reality is more apparent.

"Whether abstract or representational, my works, in conjunction with so-and-so styles, push the boundary, to what I hope is the outer limit of painting, and with a bit of luck, going somewhere that's never been before. Still, whatever you're looking at, it's just paint upon paint. Where does this take me? I haven't the slightest idea!"

Thus, the question is, "Is painting really dead?"

For those who beg to differ, livd's works are strikingly contemporary, as he continues down that path. Yet, the man, himself, is philosophically malleable to the reason he makes art, in that, he stated: I believe art is a creative force given to all of us. A source of an entity that speaks through us. It starts from the inside out. I’m not sure why I create art, but I know I need to!

"make art - not more things..."
